a game rather than people who teach our kids and keep our neighborhoods safe is frankly outrageous. but we ll leave that question to the american people again. but this is to make sure we have jobs here at home. and pay for it by cutting down loopholes for shipping jobs overseas. very quickly, let s move ahead to september. are you guys going to introduce some sort of mini second stimulus? i ve heard some rumblings about this. one in four of the long-term unemployed are construction workers. some sort of stimulus money for new infrastructure. roads, bridges, et cetera. look, you re talking about in the next month or two? because there have been various discussions, but there s no plan to do that. the major piece of legislation, the major piece of legislation, chuck, we re trying to get out of the senate is the bill that would provide credit to small businesses so that people can get their loans. that s been held up by the republicans in the senate for a long time. that would be a g
debate would really be about. let me put it to you. he just used the word stimulus. you know republicans are going to say this is another unfunded unpopular stimulus. how do democrats rebut that? a lot of people are planning to send their kids back to school and it s important we have enough teachers. that s why it s important that we move quickly to avoid layoffs. just to go directly to kevin s point, this is all paid for. i hope kevin will look at the details of this and his republican colleagues will support it. one way to pay for it is to use some of the funds for the recovery that have not been used. the main way we pay for it, shut down some of these loopholes that encourage big american corporations to ship jobs overseas. we say we re not going to reward those companies for shipping jobs overseas. let s use that money instead for teachers in our classrooms here at home. i really hope that our colleagues will come on board. let s talk about last night s primaries. there s a

you should be able to expect that. and it is none too soon. we re having a situation in states like mine, in oregon, we have 40,000 people who have lost their unemployment benefits. if you put that across the country, that s 4 million people. so we really have a contrast here with programs to help the wealthiest or to help working americans bridge through this deep resession to a better time. republicans are arguing the arraign to help the wealthiest americans is because doing so is free. extending the top tier of the bush tax cuts for the wealthiest americans is something that wouldn t add to the deficit. what is your reaction to that? well, may reaction. this is like a summer sequel of a horror film. we ve been there. we ve seen exactly what happened. we saw the national debt double. we saw none of these giveaways worked. and we saw it in tandem with shipping jobs overseas. if this is the idea of a
offshore versus onshore tax code. how do you address it? it s astounding, but there are actual tax incentives for shipping jobs overseas. so what we did is we went to the companies and we said, look, we know you want these incentives, you believe that the tax rates are too high in this country. if we get rid of deferral, so we eliminate the incentive to take jobs overseas, we can cut your rates significantly when you manufacture in this country, when you produce jobs in this country. now we ve got an agreement that both business and a lot of labor folks like and i think it s going to be very good for job growth in our country. last question and then arianna, jump in here. how do you address the massive gap between wealth and work that tax rates for those who inherit or hold large asset pools are meaningfully lower than those toy to actually earn a living? how do you address that? we reduce that gap very significantly.
