Typhoon No. 7 forced residents to evacuate their homes, caused power outages over a wide area and led to at least one serious injury after making landfall on Aug. 15.
Evacuation warnings have been issued to more than 237,000 people across 11 prefectures in Japan as Typhoon Lan hit the west of the country on Tuesday, according to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
After Typhoon Khanun passed through Japan’s Ryukyu Islands and brushed Kyushu on its way into the Korean gulf last week, Japan prepares for its seventh typhoon of the month: Typhoon Lan.
Since being classified as a typhoon about 1500km southeast of Japan on Thursday, Typhoon Lan has made a beeline straight for Japan, unlike its predecessor Khanun in the previous week. Lan is currently cruising towards the Island of Honshu at the speed of 5.5km/h. At this rate, Lan is expected to make landfall on Tuesday. But don’t be fooled by the speed of Lan’s trajectory! The system is producing winds up to 155km/h and pouring 50mm of rain.

Typhoon Lan is currently a category 2 tropical cyclone but is expected to weaken into a category 1 before making landfall. Lan will likely hit Honshu’s coast near Shingu on Tuesday morning before
