Hour ago but now they have confirmation that first officer was shot once and he is now out of surgery and in Critical Condition. The second officer shot twice but is in stable condition. This is in the parking lot of the auto zone where police tried to pull over this white truck with multiple people inside. Fremont police say the Truck Drivers rammed the officers vehicle where you can see the vehicles are head to head and the police car smashed in, both officers and one of the suspects started firing. This happened at 1 30 this afternoon. A driver of a vehicle backed into our officers vehicle. And gunshots were exchanged between the two of them. During that encounter our officer went down. The suspect pulled forward in his vehicle and took off on foot. About 10 minutes later we encountered the same suspect on roberts avenue and fremont a short distance away. And during that
Testing testing what is being proposed now is what they consider the first phase which would be a 640bed replacement jail. Currently just 3 and 4 have 509 beds. So, it is a reduction. The estimated cost of this is 290 million. Of that cost 30. 7 million would be to purchase the land adjacent to the hall of justice. So, this current plan is consistent with an assessment made by the controller, the county jails needs assessment. If they build a 640 height and bulk bed jail at the hall of justice, county wide there would be 220 beds, more than 2200 beds. This is expected to meet an average daily population, inmate population of 2 19 of 1900. There has to be additional beds to accommodate population days and also for what they call classification, which basically means beds need to be left vacant based on gender, type of crime and other factors. For Capital Infrastructure needs like replacing the hall of justice. If those dollars are not able to be used for that, they cant just be shifted wholesale over to programming. So, with that, i will finally, i would just like to say, i guess reiterating what supervisor kim was saying before, yes, i think everyone agrees that jails 3 and 4 are not an appropriate place, theyre not safe, theyre not serving theyre not meeting current needs.
