China: Wuhan tornado kills 8, injures hundreds
Tornadoes hit the Chinese city of Wuhan and the town of Shengze, killing several people and injuring more than 400. Clean-up efforts are underway.
A tornado hit the Chinese city of Wuhan, causing massive damage to homes and property
At least 12 people were killed and more than 400 injured as a storm system ripped through central and eastern China Friday night.
Eight people died and 280 were injured in Wuhan, the capital of China’s central Hubei province, where COVID-19 was first detected in late 2019.
Local officials said the tornado hit around 8:40 p.m. local time (1240 UTC/GMT), damaging construction sites, toppling 27 houses and snapping several trees. At least 130 houses were damaged.

In central Hubei Province s Wuhan, six people were missing, and 41 others were being treated in hospitals after a tornado ripped through the Caidian District at 8:39 p.m. local time, Xinhua said.
BEIJING (AP) Two tornadoes killed at least seven people in central and eastern China and left more than 200 others injured, officials and state media reported Saturday. The Wuhan government said that six people had died and 218 were injured in the inland Chinese city.

Tornadoes killed at least 10 people in central and eastern China and left more than 300 others injured, officials and state media reported Saturday.
Six people died in the inland city of Wuhan and four others in the town of Shengze, about 400 kilometers east in Jiangsu province, local government statements said.
A tornado first struck Shengze about 7 p.m. Friday, toppling factory buildings and damaging electricity facilities, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The Suzhou city government, which oversees the town, said in a social media post that four people had died and 149 others had minor injuries. Shengze is near Shanghai on China’s east coast.
