City Hall is demanding that a Black-owned Richmond sandwich shop pay $37,000 in uncollected meals tax along with penalties and interest after telling the owners not collect the tax when they applied for a business license in June 2021.
Richmond’s 2022-23 surplus is nearly five times larger than Mayor Levar M. Stoney and his administration previously disclosed, according to the city’s annual audit report.
Each restaurant is its on case, and needs to be handled differently, with unique solutions. The underlying factor to them all though, comes down to miscommunication with the city, and its finance office.
