Designer of Holy Kaaba s door dies in Germany

Dubai: Syrian Engineer Muneer Sarri Al Jundi, who designed the door of the Holy Kaaba in Mecca, during the reign of the late King Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz (1975 to 1982), died in Stuttgart, southern Germany, on Saturday. Al Jundi, who was born in Homs, used 280kg of pure gold in designing the door of the Holy Kaaba, which is located at the centre of Mecca’s Grand Mosque. Al Jundi was assigned to design the door of Kaaba due to his expert craftsmanship. The door was installed in 1978. Kaaba is considered the most sacred site on Earth by all Muslims because it is where Muslims worldwide face when performing their five daily prayers.

Designer of the Iconic Doors of Holy Kaaba Passes Away ALSO READ Al-Jundi was chosen to design the doors of the Kaaba during the reign of King Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during the 1970s. It is believed that King Khalid assigned the Badr family in Makkah to manufacture the new doors. Sheikh Mahmoud Badr and his son headed the project. Saudi King, Shah Khalid, had offered prayers inside the Baitullah at the time, after which he had instructed to make the door of the Kaaba out of pure gold. An official at the time said, “It was designed by engineer Munir Al-Jundi, and its lines were made by Sheikh Abdul Rahim Bukhari. Its height is more than three meters, its width is approximately two meters, its depth is half a meter, and it consists of two bookends and a wooden base 10 cm thick of teak wood.”
