Michael Barker, known by many as Mick, died peacefully at home on November 26, aged 81. Born in 1938, the eldest of three boys, Mick spent his childhood growing up in Wintringham. As a young boy he helped a local market gardener, but his real love was for anything with an engine and so he begun an apprenticeship at Yates’ Garage in the village. He married Margaret in 1961 and they went on to have three daughters, Karen, Jacqui and Alison, and six grandchildren. Jacqui said: “Dad opened his Wood Street Garage in Norton in 1969 and as well as servicing and repairs he began to sell cars, which he loved. As much as he always loved doing a deal, it was mixing with people and chatting that he particularly enjoyed.”
