Share CUMBERLAND Second-seeded Greely used a balanced attack and tenacious defense to hand No. 3 Messalonskee its first defeat of the spring, 14-3, in a Class B girls’ lacrosse semifinal Wednesday. The victory sends the Rangers (12-3) into the state championship game Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland against top-seeded Yarmouth, at a time to be determined. Messalonskee finishes 13-1. Seven players scored for Greely, six in the first half. The Rangers pulled ahead for good in the 14th minute on a goal by freshman Eva Williams that snapped a 1-1 tie. Greely scored three more times over the next four minutes and led comfortably at halftime, 8-1.

Girls lacrosse: Messalonskee showing no signs of rust Eagles are 5-0 this season, scoring 85 goals, while allowing just seven defensively. By Dave DyerKennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel You’ll find no signs of rust with the Messalonskee girls lacrosse team. After missing a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Eagles have not only picked up where they left off to start the 2021 season, they’ve gotten better. On May 20, 2019, Messalonskee beat Brunswick 15-9 to improve to a 3-5 record. Today, the Eagles are 5-0 on the season. They’ve scored 85 goals (an average of 17 per game) during that stretch. They’ve allowed just seven goals total on defense. There’s only been one game so far this season a 9-3 win over Maranacook/Winthrop on May 1 where Messalonskee has allowed more than one goal.

Share OAKLAND The Messalonskee girls lacrosse team is looking to continue what’s been a winning program. Its opponent Monday afternoon, Lawrence, is looking to build one. Shauna Clark scored five goals, Francesca Caccamo and Abigail Klinge added three each, and Messalonskee rolled to a 19-1 victory over Lawrence. The Eagles improved to 2-0. The Bulldogs, who got a goal from Holly Bolduc, are 0-1.
