It started before 3 00 in the morning south of downtown. The pursuit lasted nearly a half hour. It finally ended when the man ditched his vehicle and tried to run. The k9 caught the man at southeast 4th and mlk. 37yearold shaun phelan of des moines was wanted by the atf on a warrant of felon in possession he also faces charges from the chase. New at 5 00 a 28yearold man , faces 16 charges in connection with a chase on interstate80 early this morning. The iowa state patrol says James Earl Overton took off when a trooper tried to stop him. Troopers say at one point overton was driving on the wrong side of the interstate. Overton started running on foot after a trooper performed a pit maneuver on his car. Mark at his weekly news conference, governor branstad did not say whether he would support an iowa utilities board ruling that would allow Dakota Access to use Eminent Domain to take private land along the 348 mile route through iowa. Theyre not taking the land, theyre only using the land to put a pipeline through and weve had thousands of miles of pipeline put through the state. Mark Dakota Access claims it has signed easements with well over half the landowners on the Pipeline Route but plenty of holdouts remain. It kind of makes me angry that they can push us around like that, an out of state forprofitcompany can come in and take our land, its just not right. We have learned the only reason officers were able to track down samaritan that saw the crime unfold and alerted officers. What was supposed to be a simple stop and citation at seventh and hawkeye avenue turned into a highspeed chase. Been riding in when the vehicle hit her near the intersection of hull and delaware avenues. Police say they dont know why she got out of the car. Hols later died from her injuries. Police say 41 year old sam archer was driving the car and is believed to have been hols boyfriend. Officers arrested him on assault causing Bodily Injury charges unrelated to the incident. It started at southeast 14th and hartford avenue. Just before three am. Officers laid down stop sticks. Puncturing the suspect vehicles tires. That caused the vehicle to come to a stop Near Southeast 6th and east mlk. The driver then ran away. But a k9 unit chased him down. No word on any injuries. Des Moines Police are halloween. They say 22 year old haley hols died after being hit by a vehicle driven by her boyfriend. It happened just before midnight saturday. Near the intersection of hull and delaware avenues. Hols was riding with 41yearold sam archer. Police say the couple was heading home from a halloween party, when they came across a train. Archer went to turn around to avoid the crossing. What happened next isnt clear. 17 22 28 at some point, she left the moving car and was run over by that car. The determination right now that we need to make is whether or not she intentionally stepped out of the car or she accidentally fell out 41 Police Arrested archer on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated bar fight last april.
