Riot Games investigation finds no evidence of misconduct or sexual harassment by CEO

The investigation Riot Games commissioned into its CEO, Nicolo Laurent, has found no evidence of misconduct or sexual harassment, following allegations made by his former assistant earlier this year. These have since been shared on Riot s website, with the company noting that it does not usually discuss individual cases so publicly but the serious nature of the allegations and attention they have since attracted warrants an exception. Riot Games has also requested that the court accelerate or reconsider the current schedule of proceedings, accusing O Donnell of attempting to tamper with witnesses. Following O Donnell s original claims, the Special Committee contracted external law firm Seyfarth Shaw to investigate these claims. Laurent remained in place as CEO, continued his day-to-day duties and is said to have offered his full co-operation.

Riot Games says that an investigation into sexual harassment and gender discrimination allegations against CEO Nicolo Laurent found no evidence that he acted inappropriately with his former executive assistant. The Santa Monica-based  League of Legends developer was served with a lawsuit from Sharon O Donnell in January alleging that Riot Games and Laurent created a hostile work environment in violation of the California Labor Code and Fair Employment and Housing Act based on alleged sexual discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. The lawsuit remains ongoing, with a status conference set for April 27.

Published 16 Mar, 2021 Riot Games say that the third-party investigation they initiated into CEO Nicolo Laurent has found no evidence of wrongdoing, and their own special committee recommends no action be taken against him. The investigation was prompted by Riot Games after a lawsuit was brought against Laurent and the company in January which alleged that he had harassed an employee and that Riot Games had fired her when she complained. The lawsuit is ongoing. The investigation into Laurent s conduct was performed by external law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP, who presented their findings to a three-person special committee at Riot Games. The special committee, as reported by the Washington Post, consisted of Riot Games board member Youngme Moon and two male C-level executives from Riot Games owner Tencent.
