Corrupt prosecutor sentenced to five years in prison

A prosecutor who ended up on the wrong side of the law has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The Camperdown Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal sentenced Zanele Molefe, 42, to an effective five years on 14 May following her conviction for corruption, theft and defeating the course of justice.

Molefe, who was a District Court Prosecutor at the time of the offence has since been dismissed from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

DURBAN - A KWAZULU-NATAL prosecutor has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment for corruption and subsequently dismissed from the National Prosecuting Authority.
Forty-two-year-old Zanele Molefe was convicted of corruption, theft and defeating the course of justice after she asked a man for R1000 in exchange for making his case go away.
NPA spokesperson in KZN, Natasha Kara, said in May 2015, when Molefe was employed at the Mooi River Magistrate s Court, a man crashed into a local shop and the owner opened a case of malicious damage to property was opened.
