In making Netflix’s new fantasy series Shadow and Bone, it’s fair to say that Amita Suman took her lumps.

“I did get a scar,” the 23-year-old actor tells me. “I had my first Inej scar that I’m very proud of. And I had a bit of a swollen foot for about three weeks.”
In a role that requires her to battle heart-twisting warriors, dodge knives, scale tall buildings and spin from swirling silks, it’s no wonder that Suman ended up in the wars – but for her, playing the part of master thief Inej in the series was worth a few cuts and bruises.

Harold Pinterâs extraordinary one-act play features gripping language, amid claustrophobia, confusion and tension

IT was an absolute joy to return to Hampstead Theatre last week for its 60th anniversary production of Harold Pinterâs
The Dumb Waiter directed by Alice Hamilton.
Two casts underwent separate rehearsal processes starting in February, but they were not, until early December, able to open the show.
I love the fact that Hamilton was chosen to direct this production because, at 31, she is the same age James Roose Evans was when, in 1960, he premiered Pinterâs extraordinary one-act play in a church hall as part of the Hampstead Theatre Club.
