Abraham Beardy, 43, was last seen alive Aug. 27 while canoeing with a woman on Gods River, which runs through Shamattawa First Nation, about 350 kilometres south of Churchill. His body was found on the river Aug. 31, RCMP say.
Manitoba RCMP say searches are continuing for Abraham Beardy, 43, who was last seen on the evening of Aug. 25 when the canoe he was in on Gods River tipped.
Eleven First Nations in northern Manitoba are struggling to deal with the fallout of years of substance abuse, housing issues and other infrastructure problems. Grand Chief Walter Wastesicoot said the additional $300,000 in government funding amounts to "very little" actual help.
