The South Korean government plans to build 320,000 new houses in Seoul and 830,000 nationwide by 2025. Together with housing plans announced last year, the number of new units across the country will rise to over 2 million, the largest supply plan under the Moon Jae-in administration. The proposed amount of houses in the capital is equivalent to three times the number in Bundang New Town and about the same as the number of units in three districts in southern Seoul combined.

Construction of a community housing village in Seoul is nearing completion.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said recently the construction of the community housing village named Doseodang will be finished soon in Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang District, in eastern Seoul.
Community housing is a form of residence in which residents not only share community spaces but also seek common interests and solve common problems based on the community s own rules.
Another unilateral move
DPK hit for adopting confirmation report
A National Assembly committee has passed a confirmation report on Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister-nominee Byeon Chang-heum. The ruling Democratic Party of Korea s (DPK) 17 lawmakers on the 26-member committee voted for the report Monday amid fierce protests from the opposition People Power Party (PPP).
This is the second time that a confirmation report has been passed in the absence of a bipartisan consensus since the confirmation hearing of Unification Minister-nominee Lee In-young in July. The DPK maintains that there is no problem with Byeon s qualifications.
DPK Rep. Kang Jun-hyun said, Byeon has already given a sincere apology for his past remarks. There could be many problems with the appointment of key officials in the future should they fail to get Assembly approval because of allegations based on speculation.

Land Minister nominee Byeon Chang-heum repeatedly apologized for controversial past remarks after being blasted by opposition lawmakers at his confirmation hearing Wednesday. He also pledged to supply more homes in station areas to address housing shortages.
At the parliamentary confirmation hearing, lawmakers from the opposition party called for the nomination of Byeon, CEO of the state-run housing developer Korea Land & Housing Corp., to be withdrawn, saying he does not have “the minimum dignity as a human.”

A National Assembly confirmation hearing of besieged land minister nominee Byeon Chang-heum found, Wednesday, that disapproval of him by the opposition bloc was showing no signs of abating due to his past controversial remarks and alleged misdeeds.
Lawmakers from the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) asked a barrage of tough questions of Byeon in relation to them, urging him to decline his nomination, and even the minor opposition Justice Party, which has traditionally refrained from finding fault with President Moon Jae-in s Cabinet nominees, denounced him as unfit for the ministerial post.
