Wood County judge discusses vaccine clinic to âSave Our Seniorsâ on Thursday

WOOD COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Wood County will have a mobile vaccination clinic Thursday as a part of the ongoing statewide âSave Our Seniors Initiative.â Judge Lucy Hebron spoke with Kayla Lyons on East Texas Now to share more about the initiative to get more people vaccinated in her county. The clinic will be held only on Thursday and access is exclusively for residents who are 65 years of age or older. The clinic will be held at the Mineola Civic Center, located at 1150 N. Newsom Street in Mineola.

CASS COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) - Texas leaders in Cass County are preparing for their first COVID-19 vaccine clinic for those 65 and older, or those with underlying health issues.
The county is part of the Texas “Save Our Seniors Initiative.” The first clinic is set for Friday, Mar. 5 at the Cass County Law Enforcement Justice Center in Linden. The second clinic is set for Tuesday, Mar. 9 at the First Baptist Fellowship Hall also in Linden.
County Judge Becky Wilbanks said those who would like to get the vaccine must register in advance by calling the judge’s office at (903) 756-5181, extension 0.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - A Texas program with the goal of distributing COVID-19 vaccines has made its way to rural Cass County.
Members with the Texas Army National Guard took over portions of the Cass County Law Enforcement Center in Linden Texas on Friday, Mar. 5. The guard is there as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s “Save Our Seniors Initiative.”
“We have combat medics here actually administering the vaccine to the people of the area,” said Sgt. Eric Johnson.

The Callander Public Library has received a grant to fund its ‘borrow the internet’ program for seniors.
The library will launch its Connecting Seniors Initiative using the grant from the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility through its Seniors Community Grant Program.

The initiative aims to help older adults who are dealing with isolation caused by COVID-19.
“We saw an immediate need to help our community connect when we had to close down in March 2020,” library chief executive officer Melissa Sones said in a statement.
“For many in our community the library was a social hub, and as we shifted to connecting virtually we realized that many of our older adults couldn’t participate because they didn’t have access to affordable internet.”
