Newly elected Iowa Senator for the 6
th District, Republican Craig Williams, has served as Chair for the Carroll County Republicans and has been involved in politics for years. However, this coming Monday, as the Iowa 2021 legislative session convenes, will be a whole new experience for him.
For about a month now, Williams has been attending caucus meetings to get together with other senators to discuss what may be coming up. They also review the decorum of the senate and how to vote, getting them acclimated to where things are and how they work. This week, however, drew attention away from that as a protest in Washington, D.C. turned violent. Williams says this was not America’s finest hour.
Senate Republicans Reject Efforts to Make the PA Senate More Effective and Transparent
Harrisburg, Pa. − January 5, 2021 − Today, Senate Republicans rejected efforts by Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny), Senator Katie Muth (D-Chester, Montgomery, Berks), and the Democratic caucus to reform the Senate operating rules and procedures in ways that would increase transparency, advance policy, and ensure that members are able to adequately represent their constituents.
Under Senate procedures, operating rules for the new Session have historically been adopted by Unanimous Consent Resolution (UCR), which are not required to receive a bill number and be pre-filed with the Legislative Data Processing Center (LDPC) and made publicly available. Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) offered the Republican version of these rules. joining us right now from houston, texas is the republican state senator who sponsored the voter id law. senator tommy williams. senator williams, thank you for joining us this morning. jay good morning. i was one of 19 co authors on this bill. you just heard the attorney general say the law is harmful to minority voters. how would you respond? after hundreds of hours of deposition in a week long trial eric holder has not been able to produce one texas voter who would be unable to get their id under this law. his own expert admitted that in his peer reviewed research voting is not affected by voter id laws, and he couldn t bring any evidence of discriminatory intent or affect before the court. it is shocking. you know, some of the critics say that in some parts of texas it is a big state. you know you are 200 miles away from a dmv office, like
