MIDLAND, Mich. The Michigan Information and Research Services has named Senator Jim Stamas their 2020 Senator of the Year.
Stamas, who represents Alpena and the 36th Senate district in Michigan, said he was happy for the recognition and excited to continue to work to serve the district. In awarding Stamas, the MIRS mentioned the senator’s leadership through budget issues from the pandemic, assistance to flood victims and work towards criminal justice reform.
“Sen. Stamas helped lead state government through a series of sticky budget issues in the shadow of explosive negotiations from the year prior. LANSING Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed bipartisan Senate Bills 1251 and 1252 creating the Flint Settlement Trust Fund within the Michigan Department of Treasury, and amending the Michigan Strategic Fund Act, to address the funding of the $641.2 million settlement in the civil Flint Water cases. Senate Bill 1251 was sponsored by Senator Jim Stamas (R-Midland), and Senate Bill 1252 was sponsored by Senate Democratic Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint).
