Around 15-hundred gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a Sedona wash Friday after rain water inundated the city of Sedona’s El Camino Lift Station. The water overwhelmed the pump system, causing the sewage spill to take place. The wastewater spilled into a nearby wash, which flows into the Carroll Canyon Wash, which ultimately empties into Oak Creek Canyon near the Crescent Moon Ranch area. City officials say the untreated wastewater was highly diluted by rainwater at the time of the spill. Water samples will be taken and tested. Signage is being posted at the Crescent Moon Ranch swimming area and the city hand-delivered information on the spill to residents near the ranch. City officials say the spill was stopped within 30 minutes.
