those are the people who have real influence over putin. do you believe, it s the theory that whether it s the citizens of russia or security apparatus that is crucial in russia, so disgusted by this they revolt. that s how gorbachev was run out. he was trying to dissolve the soviet union. putin is trying to make it strong again. with gorbachev, the reason the coup plotters really got going and really started moving against him was because russia was falling apart. the soviet union at the time was falling apart. what s happening in russia? all of these sacnctions, the isolation, north korea-like prospect for them in the future, that s what the security guys might be more concerned about than anything else. you have studied putin a long time and know his game is to be a bully. he talked to his friend, the president of belarus, which is landlocked right here. russian troops obviously have gone into belarus and into ukraine from belarus. putin saying he agrees with bel belarus de
something in exchange, but right now we need to focus on the threat at hand. vladimir putin is not going to stop, and we either have to beat him at the home game, the home front, which is to squeeze off his money, to put pressure on his people, to get his inner circle, those security guys to convince him to stop or to swap him out as a leader, who knows what, but that s the home game. and then the away game is, you know, helping ukraine defend itself. so those are the only two ways that we bring this to an end, in russia or on the battlefield. that s a very clear way to put it. you mentioned the home game. we re going to get into that, actually, right after the break as we go inside russia with someone who knows putin s mind-set quite well. i want to thank evelyn farkas for kicking us off, and ambassador taylor has agreed to come back to discuss another substantive part of the foreign policy so i ll see you later in the hour sir. putin arresting thousands of people inside russia fo
podium. this is crazy. now we just burn them. greg: i was talking to security guys, they do think this guy is mentally ill but at the same time he was hanging around here for a while. like a week or something. he wasn t crazy enough to figure out how to do it. like he climbed up the tree. he had this thing set on fire. he actually did it. i would not know how to set a tree on fire. i would like my lighter and be like the wind keeps blowing it out and go home. greg: i can staley start a fire in my fireplace. i think there is a switch on your wall. greg: that is for something else. that part stuck out to me. the guy climbed up the tree to set it on fire. was that would be like an arson this setting a house on fire in the attic. greg: that s why i don t think it is crazy. but when you re out tonight you might run into him.
of seconds. mike, one of our security guys tackled him to the ground. the cops came from everywhere. our security guys are fantastic. they were able to jump right on him. a lot of retired detectives. in come the fire department. in came the police through the night. arson investigators but, this is beyond tragic and angers everywhere. and that smoke by the way filled up our entire lobby. ainsley: so sad. steve: we officially lit the christmas tree. there is santa. lawrence jones is going to be joining us shortly. he was there for the lighting. ultimately it comes down to, what kind of a person lights a christmas tree on fire. apparently he climbed up according to some of the eyewitness accounts, that we have heard. haven t seen the police report yet. apparently the guy is still being interviewed by the arson squad, beginning to look a lot like arson. he climbed up about halfway up because there is a metal super structure underneath it, he had a bunch of newspapers under his arm, lit th

[shouting] [shouting] shannon: they followed him into the streets, they tried to block a car, a couple security guys had to move them out of the way so he could pull out of there, i want to ask you both that this kind of stuff is good to change his mind.
