why? if korea is our number one security challenge, and i think you could have a debate about that, but let s say it s number one, then our ally, south korea is going to be the most important. if a war breaks out we will find ourselves on south korean land. we don t have an ambassador in south korea. that seems empty except for an acting ambassador, i think there s been a bit of an up-and-down relationship between president moon and president trump i think it s great they got him on the phone. i hope. [inaudible] that will be a critical meeting and that s really where the real work will get done. it s not going to be in speeches, it s in these meetings with world leaders. there s a lot of opportunity to bring up different topics.
news with you. the newly elected south korean president and the president going to the g-20 where he s going to meet with vladimir putin next week in germany. it s a reminder that the world doesn t press the pause button while we go through our domestic, quote unquote, issues. it s arguably centering on the single most important security challenge donald trump will likely deal with. north korea is working on missiles that can reach the continental united states. what will that lead to? are we prepared to use military force? are we prepared to live with this? do we believe deterrence would work with kim jong un? can we bring china on board to use the leverage it says it doesn t have and we know it does and can we keep the south

reporter: well, there s also this national security issue. the issue of isis and terrorism remains a very central one in this country. you remember there was a fairly small but highly symbolic, very frightening terrorist attack on the eve of the first round of elections here. french officials are concerned that there could be another terrorist attack in france. you have so many isis fighters who fought in iraq and in syria in particular and now as the campaign in those two countries is intensifying, some of them are trying to make their way home or try to carry out an attack in this country. there is the security challenge. right now he s seen as something of the wonder kid. a magazine here called him le kid. he s seen as a young peern from the new generation. a commentator described him as the uber answer to french politics. that s a lot of pressure.
