Think that it will increase my skills and so we would say yes that makes sense and sometimes we dont. In terms of the flow of partnerships and information back and forth, ive been very public about saying for the National Security agency i would like us to create a model where the members of our workforce dont necessarily spend 30 or 45 years working directly for us which has been made historic norm. Its amazing when i say tell me how long youve been with the nsa. 30, 35 years, 38 years. I said goodbye to an employee after 50 years. When ive talked about is particularly given the state of the technology, we have to create a world where evil from nsa can leave for life and work in the private sector provides also like to create a world where does private sector can come spend a little time with us because one of the challenges is the nation that we are dealing with and you have seen this play out over the last year or so in particular. We talk past each other a lot because we dont under
Thank you very much. I want to just start by thanking you and the chamber. Your proactive leadership on this topic i think is second to none and i think youre doing a Great Service for the Global Community in what youre doing. What i, what i want to do is very briefly provide a private sector view on the environment, the importance of information sharing in particular and the obstacles that we face and a little bit of a call to action before introducing admiral rogers. So let me start with something that everyone here obviously wellunderstands. The range of attacks we experience in the private sector is really unprecedented and getting worse by the day. The volume and sophistication of attacks is only showing signs of acceleration. And every published success simply encourages new entrants and bolder moves. Threat actors from social activists, cyber criminals, nation states, tear one and tear two, with a tier one and tier two. Financial and property theft and Financial Crime and what i
Industry to share information on Cyber Threats. Before signing, the president talked about why it was important to address the issue now. He also spoke about the governments attachment to keep people safe while attempt to keep people safe while protecting Civil Liberties and privacy. This is 30 minutes. Ladies and gentlemen, to introduce the president of the United States please welcome, Stanford University president , john hennessey. [applause] welcome back. Its now my great privilege to intro our nations 44th 44th president , barack obama. President obama came to office just after the Global Financial crisis in 2008. His presidency has been marked by the complexity and challenges of governing at a time when people are more interconnected than ever. Sometimes in ways we dont even realize. And the idea of Community Extends far beyond physical boundaries. So many aspects of our lives have been digitized and technology is central to almost everything we do. But our increasing reliance ha
This discussion is two and a half hours. Good morning, i am the president and ceo of the United States telecom association. I want to thank you for attending the conversation this morning. We have been watching the screen somewhat uncertain if we were going to be here this morning. I am grateful it worked out so we can talk about the Cybersecurity Framework the whitehouse announced this week. We believe it is going to help the industry achieve grating levels of security around Critical Infrastructure. It allows companies of all sizes to adopt policies based on their specific threats by creating a common language or protocol, it will help communicate about shared responsibilities with vendors, suppliers, customers and partners. Our industry takes these responsibilities very seriously. It is my honor to introduce Michael Daniel. A cybersecurity correspondent na and he leads the development of Cybersecurity Strategy and policy. Prior to that, he served with the office of management and bu
As we heard from some of the government speakers in terms of whether it is embraced or not we have seen a lot of companies talk about how they are applauding the release of the framework and that includes at t, the chairman spoke of the release at the white house, there is general support for the framework but as to whether that continues, will the framework be used as it was intended so it remained flexible non regulatory riskmanagement tool. If it continues down that path you will see fairly widespread use among the private sector. As for whether or not the framework is going to improve cybersecurity that is a harder question to answer. Clearly the framework is intended to raise the bar for cybersecurity to make it more difficult for attackers. That is something that would be helpful for mediumsized businesses, you may not have sophisticated capabilities today but we should probably clear any reasonable expectation cybersecurity is an ongoing issue that wont go away anytime soon so t
