Speeding motorist kills woman in Onitsha lone accident

Share The driver of a Foton Auwan trailer with registration number, KTU 477 XW, while speeding, ran over a yet-to-be-identified female pedestrian crossing the road and crushed her to death in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday. Eyewitnesses disclosed that the crash was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control by the driver of the articulated vehicle. Florence Edor, Public Education Officer for the Anambra State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the accident in a statement, said, two persons were involved in the crash comprising one male adult and one female adult. She said the female adult was rushed to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha by the FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. Oyeyemi said the redeployments were pursuant to the recent approval of the promotion of senior Officers by the FRSC and the need to strategically reposition the Officers for optimal performance.

Those affected were in the capacity of Deputy Corps Marshals, Assistant Corps Marshals, Corps Commanders, Deputy Corps Commanders and intermediate ranks, who are all expected to report to their new commands with immediate effect. A statement issued last by Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC spokesperson said the redeployment which is a routine exercise intended to bolster the system for superior performance and efficiency, showed that Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) HZ Fomsuk, former DCM Special Duties and External Relations (SDER) is to now take over as DCM in charge of the Department of Motor Vehicle Administration at the national headquarters, Abuja.
