Scientists say our oceans have hit their hottest recorded temperature largely because of Climate Change, with alarming implications for the planet. This week the average daily global Sea Surface Temperature hit almost 21 degrees celsius. Thats far above the average for the time of year and it beats the previous record set in 2016. The oceans are a vital regulator of the earths climate. Heres our climate editor, justin rowlatt. Theyve been taking measurements of Ocean Temperatures here in plymouth for more than a century. And for the last 50 or so years, theyve shown a slow but steady increase up about a third of a degree a decade. Have we got a reading for today yet, do you know . I heard them Say Something around 18 or 19, which is four Degrees Higher than it should be. Its been a similar pattern globally. Rising Sea Temperatures and increasing numbers of marine heatwaves. And it has just reached a new peak 20. 96 degrees celsius, the highest Global Average sea temperature ever record

And it has just reached a new peak 20. 96 degrees celsius, the highest Global Average sea temperature ever recorded. The worlds warming waters are a dangerous trend, say experts. Peoples perspective is that the ocean is so big, so vast, that it can buffer anything that humanity can throw at it. And the reality is thats not the case. Everything has its niche within the ocean, and its incredibly easy to break that niche and influence it and upset it. Take plankton. These tiny plants and animals are crucial to life on the planet. Theyre the basis of the entire Marine Food Chain and produce half the oxygen in our atmosphere. So, every other breath you take. And they are sensitive to heat. Many species have been migrating north as the worlds oceans warm. Personally, im really concerned. The heatwaves that were experiencing on land and the Marine Heatwaves that were seeing are happening in unusual locations where we havent expected them. But there is hope. A lot of our customers are probably a bit older, so we dont feel the mortgage rate, although it creates uncertainty for them and that does and we do notice when there is a rate rise, everyone gets a bitjittery. Does it feel like we are getting green shoots . I dont feel that there is green shoots, no, no. I dont feel that there is green shoots, no, no. I feel we are in a holding pattern. It could go either way. Today, the Bank Of England said the tough medicine was beginning to work. Less tha n less than two years they have over 14 steps raised Interest Rates to the highest level in 15 years in an attempt to drain Spending Powerfrom the Spending Power from the economy. The period of near zero Interest Rates now consigned to history with the bank warning that rates could remain at this level for some time. If you asked the question, yes, and when are rates going to come down . My answer is we are going t
