March 3, 2021 DULUTH, Minn. – CHUM is looking to capitalize on Minnesota’s annual FoodShare month. Because it is typically a slow time for the CHUM food shelf and over 300 other food shelves across the state, the organizations are partnering with the greater Minnesota Council of Churches to match the donations coming through their doors. They are also partnering with local farms which would help meet their food donation goals. “If growing conditions work and all of that sort of thing happens this summer we might be looking at a surplus of a thousand extra pounds of produce,” CHUM Distributive Services Director, Scott Van Daele says.

January 10, 2021 DULUTH, Minn.- The effects of the Coronavirus pandemic left more than 15,000 people in the Twin Ports to rely on CHUM’s Food Shelf to put food on the table an increased demand they haven’t seen in more than a decade. “In my tenure it was a pretty big record setting year on my terms,” Distributive Services Director Scott Van Daele said. The COVID-marked 2020 brought some of those people in for food multiple times a month, others multiple times a week.

CHUM s Free Pre-Packaged Food Boxes Remain in High Demand

December 21, 2020 DULUTH, Minn. – Demand for free food in Duluth continues to be stronger than ever during this pandemic and holiday season. And the CHUM Food Shelf is working hard to make sure people don’t go hungry. Since July, CHUM has been delivering pre-packaged boxes of food to people in need at Our Saviors Lutheran Church every Monday from 10 a.m. until noon. People have been lining up every Monday in hopes of getting one of the 40 free food boxes. CHUM also hands out free food boxes every Wednesday and Friday outside the Food Shelf on 1 st Avenue West across from the CHUM Drop-In Center.
