island. latest from our reporter in san francisco. reporter: the coast guard wants to make sure they don t have another tragedy like the one on the farallons islands. when i show you some video, look at this. this video was taken from the santa cruz 50 deception on april 14. it sho shows what the conditions were like during that yacht race that left 5 people dead when the low speed chase ran aground on the farallons. now again the coast guard is temporarily suspending all marine event permit for offshore races so an investigation of what happened can take place. tonight i spoke with the racer harmon who ups the coast guard concern especially leading up to the america s cup. we have to have racing community both in the bay and out the bay that is safe and coast guard is really watching. it s one of the biggest jobs certainly in this area that they have ever had. we need to have everything in full working order to be safe. now the race on saturday will be affected by this

we know it involves prostitution, and now, members of the u.s. military. good evening, i m chris gordon. we begin tonight with with a developing story in the midwest. a massive storm has spawned more than 70 tornados, including one in western kansas. the national weather service calls it life threatening weather. storm 4 meteorologist chuck bell has the latest. the the tornado count continues to climb, now above 80 reported tornados just today alone. the high risk area for severe weather continues as we go into the late night hours here, big thunderstorms here. lone supercell thunderstorms roaring across southern kansas right now. that s about 600,000 people. the tornado sirens are sounding this is a tornado producing supercell thunderstorm headed up on to the south sides of wichita, kansas. more big thunderstorms here in northern parts of kansas, and that severe weather line goes into parts of iowa, have their hospital take a direct hit from the severe weather out there. a
