The history of the Ann Street Christmas Display
Mehmet Barzev
Some might remember the Christmas Village along Berwick Heights Road in East Stroudsburg from many years ago, as it lives on in our community s folklore. Louis and Edith Urban affectionately called Mr. and Mrs. Claus, put on that display for nearly a quarter-century. Urban, an employee at Frisbee lumber and an expert craftsman, built the display from the ground up and, beginning in the 1950s, became a yearly stop for holiday-loving sightseers.
The village drew folks from all over Monroe County and was sprawled out across several properties at and around the Urban’s home. However, due to health reasons, the display closed in 1979.
