Sheriff encourages residents to join Michigan Sheriff’s Association
Hillsdale Daily News
HILLSDALE In response to the need for improved, widespread public safety awareness and to assist local sheriffs in protecting the lives and property of citizens throughout Michigan, Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire announced Wednesday a campaign that encourages Hillsdale County residents to become Associate Members of the Michigan Sheriffs Association (MSA).
Individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for as little as $25, while businesses can show their support with a $50 contribution.
MSA provides essential programs to improve the training of law enforcement officers, provide assistance to victims of crime, and much-needed scholarships to Michigan students pursuing a criminal justice degree. MSA also provides support and assistance to the families and agencies of an officer who has died in the line of duty.
Sheriff receives ‘Slow No Wake’ grant
Hillsdale Daily News
HILLSDALE The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office has received a $10,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to enforce the “Slow No Wake” law.
“These monies will allow us to spend more time and resources on the water,” Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire said.
Hodshire said the sheriff’s office Marine Patrol Division will dedicate one Marine Patrol Deputy to enforce this law which will allow other Marine Deputies to look for operators that are driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol and other violations.
“It is our duty to protect you, the boater, from dangerous activities from other boaters,” Hodshire said. “We will again this year perform a “Dry Water” enforcement. We want all boaters to enjoy their time on the water without having to worry about getting injured by careless boaters.”

HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriffâs Office has a new four legged officer thanks to a $14,300 K-9 grant recently awarded through the Hillsdale County Community Foundation and the Kellogg Youth Advisory Fund.
Sheriff Scott Hodshire says the county needed a K-9 unit due to the county being next to Ohio and Indiana.
In the past, the Sheriffâs Office had to reach out to the Michigan State Police in Lansing to have a dog brought down. It was roughly a 90 minute wait for the State Trooper and the dog to arrive.
