HUNTINGTON — Cabell County Airport Authority President David Clark asked the Cabell County Commission on Thursday to extend its deadline on the proposed sale of the Robert Newlon Airport property
HUNTINGTON â Cabell County Commissioner Jim Morgan says the county commission wants out of the airport business, so itâs offering to sell the Robert Newlon Airport property.
The problem is that the board the commission wants to sell the airport to has no money and no funding source.
The commission owns the Robert Newlon Airport property near Lesage. The property is owned by the Cabell County Airport Authority and managed by Carl Bailey, owner of the Fly In Cafe, under a 30-year lease agreement with the airport authority.
At a meeting of the airport authority on Thursday, Morgan, the commissionâs representative on the five-member airport authority, said the commission has offered to sell the property to the airport authority for $200,000. The offer was made in a letter from Ancil Ramey, the commissionâs special attorney, to airport authority President David Clark. The offer is open until June 1.
Incumbent Mayor Tom Canterbury won his race with 210 votes. Heâs held the office since 2009.
âI appreciate each and every one who voted for me. Thereâs smart people here in Milton. They know what they want, and they go for it,â Canterbury said Wednesday morning.
In his fifth term, the mayor plans to finish projects that he has overseen as mayor, such as supporting the addition of the Grand Patrician Resort, redeveloping Miltonâs Main Street, and building a floodwall and new maintenance building.
Canterburyâs other opponents on the ballot, Shane Evans and Scott Bias, received 127 and 133 votes, respectively. Votes for write-in candidate Noel Jordan will be tallied during the May 10 canvass.
MILTON â Milton residents will soon fill out ballots for four municipal races.
Voters will be able to elect a mayor, City Council and recorder, as well as vote on an amendment that would change the date of future town elections.
Election Day for the town is May 4, but early voting is April 21 through May 1. Early voters can go to Milton City Hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays to cast ballots. To request an absentee ballot, contact City Hall for an application and return it to get a ballot. In-person voters must follow COVID-19 protection protocols, such as wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
