The culture, media, tourism, and social development committee of the Saudi-Omani Coordination Council held its first-ever meeting on Wednesday in Muscat. The undersecretary of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture for International Cultural Relations Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Kanaan, co-chaired the meeting alongside Sayyid Said Sultan al-Busaidi, the undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture. Officials from the Saudi and Omani culture ministries attended the meeting, SPA reported.
Over the past decade of turmoil, conflict, and external military intervention in Yemen, Oman’s foreign policy has emerged as the Gulf exception. Muscat has pursued a unique role, driven by both pragmatic concern and opportunity. It has harnessed its relations with most of the actors involved, including armed non-state actors, and sought to access new economic opportunities as part of its policies of strategic hedging, omni-balancing, and undeclared alignment.

Dr. Said Mohammed Al-Saqri, Oman’s minister of economy, emphasized that economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate has witnessed significant progress over the past two years since the establishment of the coordination council between the two Gulf nations and the opening of the land border connecting them. In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Saqri stated that the collaborative partnership between Saudi Arabia and Oman has experienced substantial growth, reflected in the volume of their non-oil trade.
