Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 15 (ANI): In wake of Cyclone Tauktae, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from the 3rd battalion Munduli, Bhubaneshwar left for Gujarat on Saturday from Bhubaneswar airport here for the emergency relief work.

The low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea near Lakshwadeep has intensified into a deep depression, said the Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday. According to the IMD, this depression will intensify into a cyclonic storm over the next 12 hours. Deep Depression intensified into a Cyclonic Storm Tauktae (pronounced as Tau Te) over Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast and the east-central the Arabian Sea: Cyclone watch for south Gujarat and Diu coasts , informed IMD in a tweet.

Cyclonic storm Tauktae, which is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm within 12 hours, may hit Gujarat coast by Tuesday morning, the weather office has said. Gujarat and Diu coasts are under a cyclone watch. This is the first cyclonic storm this year as India fights a deadly second wave of Covid, which has led to a frightening surge in country s caseload over the last two months.
It is likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.

In view of IMD s warning about Cyclone Tauktae, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the authorities in coastal districts of the state to remain alert and well-equipped to tackle the situation.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai civic body has also made preparations. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Saturday informed about the preparedness of the civic body. The BMC has taken following measures:
All Jumbo COVID centres have been asked to remain on standby and if needed, patients will be shifted to other places.
By afternoon BMC will have an update about this if patients nees to be shifted and the civic body is watching the situation closely.
