A WEST Cumbrian artist will be holding an exhibition in Egremont - and would like to hear from anyone willing to sit for a portrait. Fliss Watts will be showing her work in an exhibition called Living is Easy with Eyes Closed, at Florence Arts Centre. It will include 12 large portraits and some sculptures and run from May 22 to June 19. During the exhibition, I will be on site on Saturdays (or other days by arrangement), making some new portrait drawings which I intend to add to the exhibition, said Fliss. I’ll be taking advantage of Florence Paintmakers’ products, experimenting with the pigments they make using Egremont haematite and other local minerals.

When Kevin Wright took the helm late last year as the new executive director of the Atwood Museum in Chatham, he and others at the historical museum were beginning to look toward a more hopeful 2021 season, following a year of pandemic restrictions and disrupted activities.
That season that opens Friday, Wright says, hopes to build on several of last year’s exhibits that received limited exposure due to COVID closures. Visitors will be able to learn more about World War II in Chatham, the town’s role in the Pilgrim landing to mark that 400th anniversary, and main streets around Cape Cod in the 20th century.

Lincoln Trail College will offer a variety of community education classes over the summer, including a return of the popular Children’s Summer Theater and College For Kids programs.
“We weren’t able to offer these programs last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Lincoln Trail College Coordinator of Marketing Chris Forde. “These are both very popular programs that bring more than 100 children to our campus each year. We also weren’t able to offer other community education classes for adults and we’re excited to bring those back too.
Children’s Summer Theater will put on two shows this summer. Pirates Past Noon Kids will feature children that will enter 1st through 4th grades this fall. Dear Edwina Jr. will feature children entering 5th through 9th grades. Registration for both age grounds is May 8 from 8-10 a.m. at the Zwermann Arts Center Theater and the cost is $125.

East Town Association announced Thursday, April 1, Bastille Days Festival will not be held in 2021, and Jazz in the Park will not be held in June, July or August 2021. However, there are still fun plans for Cathedral Square Park in 2021. Although we are not yet in a position to return to the vibrancy of past summers that we all miss so dearly, the Square won’t be without excitement this year, a news release said in part from the East Town Association.
