charlie and the surge now of katrina. two storms. we know they re always all different, you know? and you re going to get a lot less than randi. do you have a place to go? can you get out of there? reporter: yeah. we have identified a parking garage for us because we re also concerned about our cars flooding and floating away, but also for our own safety we do have a parking garage to hunker down in and some other safe areas. buildings for our satellite truck that we can sort of hug up against and make sure that we do remain safe because we are bracing for the worst of it. you talk to people around here, you can tell they re on edge. i mean, certainly charlie when charlie came through they didn t have a lot of notice because it made a quick right turn, right, chad? they re preparing for this. there s quite a concern here. chad, if you can, you mentioned a 16 foot storm surge in some areas.

east perry elementary school, perry county one of the hardest hit places. you can see these pallets of water given out just today and still more water to give out. i m going to show you how much there really is. i have a camera on top of the satellite truck. you can see just how much water there is. this is what they re trying to do is get this water out as quickly as possible because people who don t have power, they may not be able to get to cooling places, so water is what they need. so they come here, they take this water, people do and put it on maybe atvs or other off-road vehicles and drive it into these hollers still blocked off because of flood waters that took away the one bridge or the one road they had into those areas. so even though there s been a lot of progress in six days, an amazing amount of progress and we ve watched from the ground here with cnn, there s a long way to go in kentucky. it s going to be a long time for that community to rebuild, that region.
