On Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1936, the Standard-Freeholder front page was full of interesting headlines covering a wide-range of subjects: “Find Stolen Furs In Secret Cache; Two Arrests Made,” “Cornwall Couple Complete 50 Years of Married Life,” and the one that would have garnered the most attention, “Enthusiastic Crowd At Arena Opening On Monday Night.”
“Enthusiasm in Cornwall’s newest community enterprise reached its peak, Monday night, with the formal opening of the new Community Arena.”

On April 29, 1910, the headlines for the Cornwall Standard were quite vicious in their wording.
Readers would have picked up the newspaper to read, An appalling calamity. Twelve people burned to death, across the middle of the front page. At the time of publication, the unnamed reporter wrote this was by far one of the most-appalling disasters to happen in Cornwall up to that year (1910.)
