A wrongway driver caused a crash on southbound 880. Traffic is very slow in the area and is expected to stay that way. Alex savidge is on the scene. What can you tell us . Reporter a huge investigation unfolding in the southbound lanes of interstate 880, north of 237 in milpitas. According to the chp, the driver of this green minivan, on the lefthand side of your screen against the divider, the driver of that band got on the freeway early this morning going in the wrong direction, traveling north on southbound interstate going in the wrong direction, traveling north on southbound interstate 880. That van then slammed into four other cars. The driver of that van, according to the chp, suffered major injuries in that crash and has been transported to the hospital. Jessica flores on the Chain Reaction accident. Reporter the school bus was carrying a pregnant driver and seven children. They were headed toward allen horsedale elementary school. About 5 miles away. On San Pablo Dam road, chp said a nasty crash set off a Chain Reaction. For unknown reasons, the volkswagen slowed its vehicle. And in an attempt to avoid collision, the chevy clear veered chevy careered r veered off and spun out of control. It crashed and sent 15 people to the hospital. Two in critical condition. Witnesses rushed in to help the kids. The bus driver was pregnant, panicking. I did what i could. Everybody was safe for the most part. But it was really pretty traumatizing to everybody. Reporter chp says doctors checked out the seven children on the bus. And each is doing fine. Its unclear how the pregnant bus driver is doing. But two others, one in the white pickup truck, another in the crushed vw, face serious injuries. One possibly an internal injury. Sounds like they were

And ultimately he caused this multicar crash that happened on southbound 880 near highway 237 here in milpitas. Just one lane remains closed for the investigation and the cleanup. This crash happened just before 5 00 this morning when the driver of that dark green minivan was spotted going north in the southbound lanes of 880 and ultimately the minivan slammed into four other cars. The man driving that van, again, was rushed to the hospital with major injuries and ultimately he died from those injuries. One person in another car involved in this crash was treated for minor injuries, according to the chp. And now the chp is trying to figure out why this wrongway driver got on to the freeway going in the opposite direction. Investigators are telling us that it did not take long before he collided with those other cars. We had two calls very close together within a matter of minutes. Sidewalks, driveways but new skies have cleared, and temperatures have listen. Look at these numbers at 44 degrees in philadelphia. 12 degrees warmer then this time yesterday when we were right around freezing, it is 45 in dover, 41 wilmington and 40 degrees in allentown but there is a problem, snow really did start to melt. I dont know if you saw it but drifting off my gutter pipes all day so there is a lot of water, puddles, wet spots so temperatures do drop below freezing again tonight. There is potential for re freeze as we head into tomorrow morning not a ton but if there is something that looks wet when you walk outside tomorrow morning watch out it could be ice once again we will continue to melt that snow.
