During the April 10 meeting, Elliot Lake council voted to re-evaluate the proposed recreation hub. Also known as the community hub, the building was envisioned to hold many recreation facilities, including an arena, pool, running track, exercise room, curling club and other amenities. Plans have been in the works for many years, with many committees struck and reports prepared along the way. As originally envisioned, the building was estimated to cost approximately $36 million. Recently, the ad hoc community hub committee recommended to council they revise the current plan for the complex by removing the curling rink. Cutting that facility from the building will save approximately $7 million.
