Bintulu Port s Samalaju Industrial Port gears up for boost in cargo

(BPHB) group is gearing up for a major boost in cargo-handling volume when an integrated phosphate plant nearby is operational. The deepsea port, which was designed and built to cater for the energy-intensive industries in the adjacent Samalaju Industrial Park, Bintulu, will also benefit from the commissioning of Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd’s new Phase 3 aluminium smelting plant and the soon-to-be constructed mega-steel plant. According to BPHB group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah, SIP is expected to handle one million tonnes of new cargo from Malaysian Phosphate Additives (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (MPAS). “This will bring in an additional revenue of about RM23mil (annually), ” he said in the company’s newly released 2020 annual report.

KUALA LUMPUR (April 5): Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd said today a fire incident occured on Saturday (April 3) at its 80%-owned subsidiary Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd s (PM Bintulu) smelting plant in Sarawak. In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, Press Metal, however, did not specify the cause of the fire, which occurred at 4.30am at PM Bintulu’ plant within the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu. Press Metal said PM Bintulu is principally engaged in the manufacturing of aluminium products. The fire incident occurred at the new Phase 3 operations of the Samalaju Smelter, which is primarily under commissioning; and damaged one smelting pot out of the total of three hundred smelting pots located at the plant. Other existing production facilities at the Samalaju Smelter were not affected and are running as normal. The fire did not cause any harm to any persons,” Press Metal said.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 1): Based on corporate announcements and news flow today, companies in focus on Tuesday (March 2) may include AMMB Holdings Bhd, HeiTech Padu Bhd, Pharmaniaga Bhd, Top Glove Corp Bhd, Advancon Holdings Bhd, Sime Darby Plantation Bhd and Uzma Bhd. AMMB Holdings Bhd’s net profit for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2020 (3QFY21) fell 30.96% to RM263.83 million from RM382.15 million a year ago, due to higher allowance for impairment on loans, advances and financing. The banking group’s quarterly revenue also slipped 11.81% to RM2.09 billion, from RM2.37 billion a year ago, its filing to Bursa Malaysia showed. AMMB did not declare any dividend for the latest quarter.
