Perez wants to be a Hall of Famer. He’s open about this. His case needs work, and this is a quick and superficial way to look at it but at the same age he has slightly better offensive numbers, one fewer Gold Glove and one fewer World Series ring than Yadier Molina. Molina also had two top 4 MVP finishes; Perez has zero.
But if his case needs work, Perez believes he has more work in him.
“The way that I feel?” he said. “I think I’m going to play catcher until I’m 45.”

Those two players are not the same, Dozier and Soler, but one thing that’s obvious is that both have been in that head space of over-swinging and trying to pull everything. Pitchers don’t need to worry as much about giving up hard contact if they know that hard contact will be into a shift.
So, there is some reasonable optimism here. These are relatively routine problems and solutions. If and when Soler and Dozier adjust and perform closer to reasonable expectations, the Royals will be instantly, tangibly and significantly improved.

The Royals have announced they have optioned rookie left-hander Daniel Lynch to Triple-A Omaha and have recalled right-handed reliever Jake Newberry. Catcher Cam Gallagher was also activated off the Injured List and Sebastian Rivero was optioned to Triple-A.
Lynch struggled in his three starts with the Royals, giving up 15 runs (14 earned) in just eight innings with five walks and seven strikeouts. It is the second-most runs given up in a Royals pitcher’s first three MLB games behind only Dan Reichert giving up 20 runs in his first three games in 1999. Lynch is ranked by many publications as the top pitching prospect in the Royals organization after being the 34th overall pick in the 2018 draft. Jakob Junis will start the evening game of Friday’s doubleheader against the White Sox, and would presumably replace Lynch in the rotation.
