The Bill seeks to expand social security coverage, enhance efficiency and effectiveness in investments, provide for the introduction of new employee benefits, improve governance, and streamline the appointment of statutory officers to key positions of the Fund.

Four incumbent workers MPs retain their seats

The race that only has a reserve of five slots in parliament attracted 18 candidates. The incumbents who went through include; Charles Bakabulindi who garnered 228 votes, Margaret Rwabushaija 291, Arinaitwe Rwakajara 271 and Agnes Kunihira 326. The new entrant Abdu Byakatonda gathered 174 votes and defeated incumbent Dr Sam Lyomoki. Others who lost in the race include; NOTU chairman Usher Wilson Owere, Dr Ekwaro Obuku all lost. The presiding officer Ibrahim Kakembo says a total of 500 delegates took part in this election out of which 6 did not vote.
