The Botetourt Chamber of Commerce hosts the State of the County Address virtually this morning at 7:30. County leaders will talk about the accomplishments in the county and plans for the future. Registration is required.
‘Help Spread Kindness to Our Schools.’ Today is the deadline to submit cards with short messages and words of encouragement. The Suicide Prevention Council and Blue Ridge Behavioral Health are collecting them as part of the Spreading Kindness Card Campaign. They are hoping to collect 5,750 to be given to teachers and school staff.
Salem City Schools is rolling out interventions aimed at providing additional support to students who are learning partially or fully virtual. With the second semester set to begin next week, educators are making a concerted effort to give students additional face-to-face opportunities to boost their ability to do well academically.
Students who have struggled with 100% online learning â those who are failing classes or nearly failing â are being encouraged to return to in-person instruction, space permitting. Students who need additional engagement will also have the opportunity to attend remediation on Wednesday mornings, and teachers are creating more online office hours.
âItâs really about keeping tabs,â Assistant Superintedent Curtis Hicks said.

Get your lottery tickets. The jackpot for tonight’s Mega Million drawing has grown to $600 million. No one has matched all of the numbers needed to win the top prize since September. The jackpot for tomorrow night’s Powerball drawing is $550 million.
The Pulaski County School Board will meet tonight to select a new chair and vice-chair. Afterward, it will hold a public hearing about the school system’s budget for the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.
New Virginia laws on insulin prices, concealed carry classes take effect

ROANOKE, Va. – Gun ownership and diabetes are two dramatically different topics, but people in both groups experienced a significant law change when the book closed on 2020.
Safeside Tactical owner Mitch Tyler told 10 News more than 1,500 Virginians took their online course in the last three days of the year, compared to 4,000 in the eight months prior to New Year’s.
“We really want gun owners to take the initiative to learn about firearm safety,” Tyler said. “It was important to them to be able to get this critical gun safety course done without potentially exposing themselves or other susceptible members of their household to COVID-19.”
