Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that Florida has filed a lawsuit against the federal government and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to end the drydocking of the cruise industry.
Cruise ships were prevented from leaving ports with passengers by a no-sail order issued by the CDC more than a year ago. That order was replaced on Nov. 1 with a conditional sail order that allows ships to sail after the CDC reviews and approves of a cruise line s safety plan.
But that s not fast enough, DeSantis during a briefing at PortMiami. Florida is fighting back, the governor said, flanked by cruise line employees and state and local officials. This is not reasonable. This is not rational.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the state is suing the U.S. government in an attempt to resume cruising in the U.S. after more than a year of the industry being shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We have tens of thousands of Floridians not just in this county alone but throughout the state who depend on the viability of our cruise industry for their livelihoods, for their jobs, for their ability to feed their families, the Republican governor said at a press conference in Miami-Dade County on Thursday.
