The scholarship adds to an existing partnership between GE Digital and Embry-Riddle initiated in 2020 when the university adopted GE Digital’s Safety Insight software to enhance flight safety operations through Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA).
GE Digital has signed a memo of understanding with Flapz to provide personalized data about each flight under a program called Safety Insight for Business Jets.
Using the information from Safety Insight, city and traffic planners can spend less time gathering data and crunching numbers on their own, and more time figuring out how to use that information to best route traffic in their cities to avoid problems.
To make these “hotspot” roads or intersections safer, the Safety Insight platform can provide suggestions on alternate ways to design the area, such as adding crosswalks or bike lanes, or adjusting the traffic signals. It can also run simulations of any potential situations proposed by the traffic planners. This can quickly figure out if a situation meant to fix the problem actually will, or if it might actually create new problems instead – such as drivers detouring through residential areas to avoid new lights or one-way routes on major streets.
