From Gisborne to Geraldton, Neville ‘Nev’ Spiers is jetting off to help Australians recovering from tropical cyclone Seroja.
The State Emergency Service (SES) Gisborne volunteer has been selected for a five-day deployment to Western Australia, where he will spend three days in and around Geraldton cleaning up after the cyclone’s path of destruction.
The cyclone tore across Western Australia’s mid-west towns Northampton and Kalbarri, some 700 kilometres north of Perth.
The ABC reported last week that approximately 70 per cent of buildings in Kalbarri were damaged, with winds reaching heights of 170km/h.
Mr Spiers was able to apply to help because he holds a Safe Working at Heights (SWAHS) and chainsaw qualifications. He also has experience as a crew leader.

22 Feb 2021 : Nathan Griffin Kerry Washington and Charlize Theron. Theron and Washington will join Bridesmaids director Paul Feig to film the Netflix original film, which is due to begin filming at Belfast Harbour Studios later this year.
“I am so thrilled to have Charlize and Kerry in this film,” said Director Paul Feig when discussing the news.
“I was honoured to work with Charlize back on Arrested Development and have been dying to work with her again ever since. And I’ve been such a massive fan of Kerry’s forever, and to finally find something for us to do together is just more proof that 2021 is going to be way, way better than 2020.”

The 2021 shortlist for the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPAs), taking place as a virtual event on 18 March this year, was first announced in early 2020.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 event, originally set to take place in London, UK, in March of that year, was postponed and will now be presented online at the same time as the IPAF Summit. The two-hour joint conference and awards showcase will start at 10:00 EST, 15:00 GMT, 16:00 CET.
