Mpumalanga escapees rearrested, face charges of murder, rape, robbery
Mpumalanga police rearrested the second of two suspects who escaped from custody, with the two men charged with a range of violent crimes.
Mpumalanga police have completed their search for two murder, rape and robbery-accused men who escaped from police custody in late January 2021, with a 24-year-old man apprehended on Friday 5 February.
Having previously rounded up the other suspect on 27 January, a day after he and his co-accused managed to slip away from officers tasked with transporting them from their cells to the nearby magistrate’s court to face the heinous charges that have been laid on them.
The police in Mpumalanga would like to voice their appreciations to the public for their involvement in making sure that the second suspect who escaped from lawful custody in a police van near Ermelo Correctional Centre on 26 January 2021, is rearrested.
24-year-old Sabelo Nkosi was found last week Friday, 05 February 2021, from his hiding place at a certain house in Khayelisha Township near Ermelo. He was then apprehended and he subsequently appeared before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 08 January 2021, facing a charge of escaping from lawful custody adding to his initial charges.
Meanwhile, Njabulo Nsibande appeared before the same court last week Thursday, 04 February 2021, following his rearrest on 27 January 2021. The case of having escaped from lawful custody against Nkosi and Nsibande was postponed to 22 February 2021, for further investigation.

Johannesburg – Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for two dangerous murder suspects who escaped from prison on Tuesday.
Police said Sabelo Nkosi, 24, and Njabulo Nsibande, 27, were arrested for murder, attempted murder, rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances, crimes which were purportedly committed in December 2016.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi described the escapees as “dangerous” and urged the public to assist the police with information which could lead to their rearrest.
Hlathi said the two had appeared in the Mpumalanga High Court, sitting at the Breyten Magistrate’s Court, on Monday, before they escaped from custody the following day.
