Mercury Theatre reopens with Baskerville, Antigone and Green Mile

The refurbished Mercury Theatre Mercury Theatre, Colchester has announced its reopening season, which sees the unveiling of its extensively refurbished venue after a two-year, £11.3million transformation. The season opens from 30 July to 22 August 2021 with Ken Ludwig s Baskerville, a thrilling new look at Sherlock Holmes directed by the Mercury s creative director Ryan McBryde. It s followed in the main house by the UK premiere of Merlynn Tong s new version of Antigone (1 to 16 October), directed by Eclipse Theatre founder Dawn Walton. The season also includes Sirens by Kenny Emson, with future productions to be announced. The year concludes with the return of pantomime to the Mercury.

Mercury Theatre announces on sale dates of its reopening season

Reopening - Ryan McBryde, creative director of the Mercury Theatre, is looking forward to the reopening of the venue A POPULAR theatre is preparing to reopen its doors to the public for its highly anticipated relaunch season. The Mercury Theatre, in Colchester, has today confirmed bookings will open on May 27 for priority booking and June 1 for general on sale bookings. Full details of the opening season will be announced on May 27, but patrons can expect top comedy, classic dramas, family favourites, new writing, pantomime and all-round entertainment on the newly refurbished stage. Open days on June 26 and June 27 will allow visitors to experience the new opportunities the refurbished building has to offer.

Mercury Theatre launches new talent development course

Ryan McBryde, creative director of the Mercury Theatre A THEATRE has launched its new programmes to develop the future talent of those who work in the creative industry. The Mercury Theatre Colchester announced three nine-month dedicated talent development programmes for promising playwrights, producers and directors from the East of England. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to work alongside mentors to gain experience of working professionally in the industry. Following from a joint programme in 2020, the Mercury and Josef Weinberger Ltd have joined forces to nurture and grow the best writing talent in their Playwrights Programme. The courses will be led by industry leaders including award-winning writer and Bafta nominee Kenny Emson, artistic director of Physical Company Theatre Témoin Ailin Conant, and Mercury’s own talent development producer, Dilek Latif.
