The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reports another scam is hitting residents in our community. This most recent scam involves a fake law enforcement officer who claims to be with a sheriff's office in another county.

(RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN) Carolyn McGowen, 63, Rutherford County Sheriff’s first certified woman deputy and first woman detective, died Tuesday.
McGowen started her career as a La Vergne Police Department police officer. She joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1984 as a patrol deputy and was later promoted as the first woman detective. McGowen primarily investigated crimes against children and sexual abuse crimes.

Of that number, 8-Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies (photo above) and 13-Murfreesboro Police Officers (photo below) became certified law enforcement officers and graduated on Friday from the 12-week Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Macy Bowman felt desperate after running away from home multiple times, living with friends and failing to complete high school. Thanks to a team of sheriff’s detectives and Murfreesboro Police, Bowman earned her GED this year and joined the U.S. Navy last month with plans to become a hospital corpsman.
