(MURFREESBORO) County Mayor Bill Ketron announced that LaShan Dixon has been named the director of the Rutherford County Health Department.
She had been serving as interim director since the unexpected death of Director Dana Garrett last October. Garrett had been in that position for around 20-years.
Prior to being the interim director, Dixon was the assistant director for the Rutherford County Health Department.
She is an MTSU graduate with a bachelor's degree and a mas .

The MTSU School of Nursing gave eligible Rutherford County residents COVID Vaccinations on Thursday (2/25/21). The vaccine injections were given by nursing students and faculty with the nursing program.
Rutherford County is now vaccinating individuals in the 1a1, 1a2, and 1b risk phases as well as individuals ages 65 and older.
The Moderna vaccine was administered during a small two and a half hour window on the MTSU Campus, which ended just after the start of the lunch hour at 12:30.
A total of 100 residents were signed up to receive the vaccine at MTSU in what was labeled a “Soft Rollout.” The shots were given through a partnership with the Rutherford County Health Department.
The Murfreesboro City Schools have changed their Asynchronous Learning Day that was set for Wednesday (02/24/21)… to Friday (02/26/21). Communications Director Lisa Trail said the reason for the change revolves around COVID-19 Vaccinations for teachers and staff at each school .The City Schools plan to do the 900 vaccinations “in-house” to take the burden off the Rutherford County Health Department.Again, the Murfreesboro City Schools will be closed to students on Frida .
