Three prototypes of the VK-650V engine, meant to power the KA-226T helicopter, will be manufactured by Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC)-Klimov by the end of 2021.
Rostec said in a statement today that a demonstrator VK-650 engine is currently being tested.
“The current design results prove the competitiveness of the power plant being created. The next stage will be the production of prototypes of VK-650V and their testing, work with the digital twin of the product,” the Russian state-owned holding conglomerate headquartered in Moscow, said.

A company dealing with repairs of Russian engines for Mi-17 type helicopters will be opened in India as early as this year, international cooperation and regional policy director of Rostec Corporation, Viktor Kladov told TASS in an interview on the eve of the Aero India 2021 exhibition.

Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC) has begun testing the VK-650V engine, which is planned to replace the Safran Arrius 2G1 powerplant that powers the Ka-226T and Ansat-U light helicopters.
The power plant, which has no analogues in Russia, has been successfully launched at the UEC-Klimov test bench in St. Petersburg.
At the moment, specialists have completed the first of the four parts of the test program: they carried out the first launch, evaluated the key parameters of the product, and adjusted the joint operation of the stand and engine systems. During the tests, the parameters of the demonstrator were continuously recorded and its condition was assessed.
