Beyer s Byways: Le Haute Desert Aerie, the nearby getaway in Pioneertown
By John R. Beyer

A reader suggested I visit a place near Pioneertown a place I would find very interesting.
I like interesting places, and I’m familiar with Pioneertown. A few years back, Laureen and I played a couple of characters in a low-budget western film that utilized the 1880s-themed town.
Pioneertown is where all sorts of Hollywood Western legends filmed movies and TV shows. It’s situated about 67 miles southeast of Victorville off Highway 247. The likes of Roy Rogers, Russell Hayden and Gene Autry, to name a few, were almost locals there. Rogers and Hayden also happened to be some of the original developers and investors. Rogers enjoyed nothing more than bowling at the Pioneer Bowl between shoots.
