The BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal told the high court that they are exploring the option of geo-tagging manholes, its chambers and covers so that ward officers can take prompt action in case a manhole cover is stolen.
The petition comes in the wake of a resident of Royal Palms, Binod Agarwal, in the area in suburban Goregaon approaching the HC seeking that the internal roads be handed over to the BMC for maintenance.
Expressing concern over the threat to pedestrian safety from open manholes, the Bombay High Court warned on Wednesday that municipal officials concerned will be held responsible if anyone were to fall into a manhole.
