Azaleas Across East Texas Making A Comeback
As predicted some of the beautiful Azaleas across Deep East Texas are making a comeback. There isn t a huge bloom like in years past, due to the freezing temperatures we experienced. They are putting on a show that we will get to enjoy for weeks. Usually now (Mid-March to Mid-April) was the best time to see the beautiful flowers, but it seems like this timeline was pushed back a bit by the freeze. Winter Storm Uri had us worried that the Azaleas would go missing.
People come from all over to visit Nacogdoches and see the 8 acre Ruby M. Mize Azalea garden. It is expected to reopen this week. The Gayla Mize Garden doesn t have a date yet, they are still clearing trails there. The Mast Arboretum at SFA is open and ready. Winter Storm Uri Damages Azaleas Across East Texas
Usually now (Mid-March to Mid April) is the best time to see the beautiful Azaleas here in Deep East Texas. There is even a route map with over 25 miles of residential areas in Nacogdoches that feature the beautiful blooms. This year due to a hard freeze during Winter Storm Uri the Azaleas have gone missing.
Officials at the SFA Gardens say not to worry, and that they most likely aren t dead. For now the best thing we can do is, nothing. Just relax and wait, they are no doubt hurt, but there is still hope. Wait for spring growth to kick in, and then prune when you can. Then you will be able see what is growing and what is not. It is just still too early to tell what is going to happen.

In Nacogdoches the 8 acre Ruby M. Mize Azalea garden is home to over 7,000 azaleas of 500 varieties. Known for being the largest Azalea garden in Texas, it can be found on the SFA campus.
It s almost spring time here, and in a few weeks they are really going to be out in force. Mid-March to Mid April is the best time to see them.
